veggies and meat are rather cheap in aussie..just that you need to cook..eating out is expensive.. guess that explain the high labor cost? not sure on the rental cost..
well quality of life should be better in aussie.. and singapore? hahahaha

Makan Sutra from a Average Couple

After buying a makan sutra book, and viewing the food programs from the television, this are our feedbacks:
1) The makan sutra book is a WASTE OF MY MONEY. Food are either so expensive or we have difficulty finding the place????
2) Why do we need to PAY to know where those food places shown on the television????? Therefore, we decide to share our humble food thoughts with you, and we also appreciate if you can suggest some nice places for makan.

I love chicken rice

Things are getting really expensive these days. Not sure you are feeling the pinch. Inflation is really setting in these days. Food is getting more expensive. Drinks are going up from 90 cents to 1.20. Food is getting from $2 to $3-5 dollars.
Then again who to blame them if rent prices are also going up?? Everything goes up, we, consumers, especially the middle income group, really suffers.
(anyway, i love my chicken rice)
Let me share this article with you.

Singapore's Rich-Poor DivideThe island's economy is booming. So why are so many citizens worse offthan they were 10 years ago? By Sonia Kolesnikov-Jessop NewsweekInternationalJan. 29, 2007 issue -
Tiny Singapore, with its population of 4.3million, is often lauded for the way it has embraced globalization tomaximum advantage. In the last decade, the city-state has opened itsdoors wide to foreign investment and talent, slashed corporate taxes, offered incentives to nurture strategic industries (such as biotech, pharmaceuticals and financial services) and cut free-trade deals with ahost of other countries. The payoff has seemed clear: over the pastthree years, Singapore's economy has averaged 7.6 percent growth—astaggering pace for an industrialized state—and created new jobs ata rate any European government would envy. There's only one problem: average citizens have yet to reap thebenefits. New statistics reveal that middle-class households have tastednone of Singapore's spectacular growth, and that the island's poorest 30percent are worse off than they were five years ago. "Although we haveseen very strong growth, we're experiencing this new phenomenon ofmedian real-wage stagnation and low-income decline," says Yeoh LamKeong, vice president of the Economic Society of Singapore. This predicament is hardly unique. Wages and salaries are stagnatingacross the industrial world. What's surprising is that even a countryfamous for its smart and transparent leadership has been unable toprevent the gains of globalization from flowing mostly to richindividuals and multinational corporations. In its bid to adaptSingapore's economy to international competition, the government hastried hard to reduce business costs. This has meant slashing laborprices, which has helped push wages down. According to official figures, over the past five years Singapore's wealthiest 10 percent have seentheir income rise by 2.3 percent annually (and that doesn't includenonwage earnings such as capital gains or dividends). At the same time, the poorest 10 percent have suffered a staggering 4.3 percent drop intheir salaries each year. The government has also allowed employers tocut their contributions to Singapore's Central Provident Fund, whichpays for pensions, public housing, medical expenses and education.Together, these factors have led to lower-than-expected privateconsumption, which has risen by just 3 percent in the past two years."Private consumer spending has been the weak link in this currentexpansion," says Chua Hak Bin, an economist at Citigroup Global Marketsin Singapore. This has, in turn, stung Singapore's large retail sector."It is evident that [they] are not the big winners from high growth,"says Manu Bhaskaran, a director of the U.S.-based Centennial Group.Foreign competition is also hurting. Contractor Tan Boon Soo is one ofmany Singaporeans feeling the pinch. He installs windows for a livingbut laments "cutthroat competition" from contract laborers, who haveflooded the island from places such as Indonesia and Bangladesh.Unskilled workers like street sweepers and security guards are alsofinding themselves undercut by immigrants willing to work for less. Thisis forcing native Singaporeans to change occupations or work harder forless money. "They talk about growth, but I don't see it," says Tan."Maybe the bankers are doing well, but construction has not been. I'mworse off now than I was in 1997."All this could spell big trouble. "If these trends continue unchecked,"warns Yeoh, "we could begin to get the formation of an underclass [and]the makings of social instability. " Such an underclass was never part ofSingapore's grand plan. Now its leaders must figure out how to preventone from emerging without relying on the kind of welfare programs theyoften deride. Last year the government launched an experimental workfareprogram that gave low-wage earners bonus pay of up to $780. Now PrimeMinister Lee Hsien Loong's government is con- sidering making theprogram permanent in an effort to thin the ranks of the working poor."We will try out different forms, but the principle will be thesame—help yourself [and] we will help you," the prime minister toldlawmakers last November. "It's essential for us to tilt the balance infavor of lower-income Singaporeans because globalization is going tostrain our social compact."Lee has already announced that he'll make Singapore's rich-poor divide amajor focus of his annual budget speech next month. If knowing is half the battle, it could be an important first step.

For those shopping for their home appliance

This is our experience.. you may wish to use for reference. Any other advice is also welcome. Disclaimer also should be noted ahhhhh..

Lighting: go balestier. the whole street all sell lightings. one shop owner say got more than 40 shops there...so you can shop and bargain for a good price. But pretty much after a while it looks pretty much the same. Anyway the shop we patronize is extreme lighting Address: 371 Balestier Road, tel. 63583113. Shop owner is very nice fella. we thought his items priced more competitive than alot that we have saw.

Furniture: my suggestion is go check out the warehouses. They tend to price their item lower than those you see in the retail store. you can check them out at Sunget Kadut. :) tips to save about 30%..

Aircon: we bought from All best.. hitachi.. so far so good..no complaints.. just that we now need to install in the living room.. this period May-june..very hot .. so good idea to install when you start renovating.. (btw..get your sound system wiring sorted during reno as well otherwise once done, you have some ugly wires hanging around, wife complaining already..)

Basin, kitchen appliance: go buy at Jalan Besar.. Price more competitive than other place.. We bought our stuff at Poh Joo Hardware engineering.. price seems more competitive.. GRACE: about the fridge, we bought at Lee Meng Trading and Home appliance..104 jalan besar tel: 62931086. oso cheaper than the major stores..

(i keep saying more competitive..because i got comparing quite often..hehehe..so good advice here... you know guys who no money wanna save more money..hahaha..)

Electrical stuff.. aiya..that one.. TV..all these technology cause product prices to get cheaper all the time.. i always say wait wait...prices will drop (really do drop larr..), but wifey say you wait you never get to buy (which is oso true)... so see what you wanna buy lor.. we bought LCD during comex exhibition.. but my personal experience with SHARP is very bad.. dunno think i like buying from them anymore. Akira oso... aiyo..the player oso not working when bought, so chuck it in store room now.. so this is my personal experience..

hope this helps...

Riddle #01

This morning, this game was posted on the radio. It goes like this:

You will be given 4 sets of numbers eg. 3, 6, 9, 16. With this four numbers, you can use any mathematical calculation e.g multiply (x), subtract (-), add (+), divide (/) to work out to the final answer: 21.

You cannot use the number TWICE!

For example: 6/3 x (16-9) = 3 x 7 = 21 .

Ok. SO for today Riddle: How do you make 21 out of 8, 9, 2, 6

Always look on the bright side

Can i ask a question:

If you know someone who is always asking the same question, is it necessary to be stressed about it..

my comment is don't get stress about it, and just answer the question when required...

Do guys and gals handle wedding preparation differently? perhaps.. but ultimately, i'm sure both parties want the wedding to proceed without a hitch...so therefore...the couple should be supportive of each other and help each other out, and manage all challenges ahead!

Career Thoughts

Have you ever wondered whether which career path is best suited for you?

1. To work for someone: being an employee.

2. To work for yourself: being kindda self boss... maybe work at a private clinic?

3. To start a business: definitely boss.. starting your own clinic..

As the world starts to be globally wired, and you read news on various opportunities, you reflect and see yourself making about $100-$300 per day.. geez... you can spent $100 on a meal, some for transport, some for entertainment, some for insurance...you really have little bit for yourself or nutting at all in one day!

But Hey.. just received $300 GST off set ...wow..great news or what?! the government really do take care of us isn't it? huh? anyway...better some money than nothing...go claim your money now!!!! check your letter box..

Controversial Post

Alrighty fella..

Just keeping you updated with Singapore News..

short, sweet, succinct summary

Foot or Sole Pain!

Today my friend is asking for a recommendation to get a insole for the sole pain.. I do see SoooOoooOOOOO many people who have sole pain, even my neighbour is also having sole pain..

Just thought i could share my thoughts if you have sole pain.

If you have sole pain, it is medically known as PLANTARFASCITIS. You can search more information in this term on the internet.

I'm not going through the signs and symptoms..for that you can read through the internet.. I'll share with you the treatment to manage YOUR PAIN!

Couple of suggested solution:

1. See a doctor, and get a steroid injection. *Warning* It is only advisable for the most 3 jabs because it will not be good for the soft tissues and bones..

2. See a physiotherapist and get some excellent treatments, which includes (depending on the assessment) hot/cold therapy management, electrotherapy modality, deep friction massages, therapeutic exercises (stretching). You can also get excellent relief with various taping techniques. Some recommended ones include sole support, low dye tape. Ask your physiotherapist~!

3. get an orthotic for immediate relief!! Orthotics refers to insoles or heel cups. You can easily get them from any sport shops, shoe shops. If you want some customized medical insoles, you can try http://www.vasyli.com/ . I know one supplier which you want, i can give you his number and get some discounts~ :)

Hope this helps
